New Scout Information

Welcome to Troop 1, we’re glad you’re here!  As a Troop 1 scout, you will experience traditional values and unforgettable adventures.  Getting started with the troop can seem overwhelming at first, here are some basics to help get started.  For more detailed information, please see the Troop 1 Parent Manual and plan to attend our New Parent Orientation meeting, usually held in February or March.

Troop 1's charter organization is First Christian Church and is part of Orange County Council's Pacifica District.

Troop meetings are held each Monday evening at 7:00pm at the historic Paxson Cabin in Lake Park.  The weekly meetings are held throughout the year, including summer months, unless cancelled due to a Troop outing or national holiday. Scouts are expected to come to the meetings in complete uniforms with their Scout Handbook and 10 essentials, prepared to participate. 

A scout’s full uniform (called “Class A”) consists of a BSA tan shirt, BSA green pants, BSA green socks and a BSA belt.  The BSA clothing can be purchased from the OC Scout Shop.  Troop 1 has its own neckerchief, neckerchief slide, shirt shoulder loops, name tag and unit patch.  These items along with Troop 1 t-shirts, jackets and hats are available for purchase at troop meetings.  See the BSA Insignia Guide for patch placement on shirts and uniform guidelines. 

Troop 1 provides opportunities for fun and engaging activities throughout the year including camping, hiking, backpacking, kayaking and service projects.  The troop also participates in the Pacifica District Camporee, a week long summer camp and high adventure trips, such as Philmont.  See the troop calendar for upcoming activities.  Sign up to attend outings at troop meetings. 

- To join scouts, complete a youth application online at beascout.org

- Log on to Scoutbook Plus, the official BSA membership online platform.

- Dues are collected annually by the troop.  Checks should be made payable to “BSA Troop 1”

- Provide 2 copies of BSA's medical forms and 2 photocopies your health insurance card

- Fill out a Troop 1 family contact form (available at the cabin)
